Apple and Oat Crumble

Ingredients

    Solid Pack Apples 520g

    Plain Flour 300g

    Porridge Oats 50g

    Margarine 150g

    Caster Sugar 50g

    Demerara Sugar To sprinkle

    Solid Pack Apples 1 x 2.6kg

    Plain Flour 1.5kg

    Porridge Oats 250g

    Margarine 750g

    Caster Sugar 250g

    Demerara Sugar To sprinkle

    Solid Pack Apples 2 x 2.6kg

    Plain Flour 3kg

    Porridge Oats 500g

    Margarine 1.5kg

    Caster Sugar 500g

    Demerara Sugar To sprinkle

     

Method
  1. Using the planetary mixer, add the caster sugar, plain flour and margarine and mix well until a light breadcrumb mixture is formed
  2. Mix in the oats
  3. Open the solid pack apples and fill ceramic serving dishes 2/3 full
  4. Top with the crumb and oat mixture
  5. Sprinkle with a light coating of Demerara sugar
  6. Bake in the oven at 180˚C until bubbling and golden on the top
Key Points
  • Additional spices such as a pinch of cinnamon or mixed spice can add great flavour to this dish. Adding seasonal fruit to solid pack apples can make a great addition.
