School Food Ambassador Programme
The Food For Thought School Food Ambassador Programme (SFA) aims to champion the voice of young people by providing an opportunity for greater account to be taken of children’s views and an increased level of participation in our school menus.
Our company mission is to support our community of schools who promote the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of children through a Good Food Culture which is why we have created the SFA programme.
This involves a small group of pupils becoming school food ambassadors; they lead on monitoring school meals and speaking to their peers about the food, the overall dining experience, and the environment.
This programme equips children and young people with the skills to positively influence both their own and their peers’ ability to make healthier, affordable choices about school food.
The programme is fully resourced: your ambassador team will get a full tool kit or resources and a package of support from our Cookery and Nutrition Manager.
School Food Heroes
School Food Heroes is our lunchtime praise and reward programme, designed to help schools create a positive food culture by noticing, encouraging and celebrating good food choices.
The programme focuses on positive experiences of food rather than how much children eat. Pupils might be recognised for trying something new, choosing fruit or vegetables, being curious about a new flavour or simply showing kindness and helping to make lunchtime a calm and enjoyable experience. Every child can take part, whether they have a school meal or bring a packed lunch.
We launch the programme with a fun pupil assembly before handing it over to the school to make part of everyday lunchtimes. Staff are provided with praise pads, stickers and resources to help them recognise and celebrate the brilliant choices they spot.
School Food Heroes also celebrates the people behind school food, helping children recognise the important role their kitchen team plays in making lunchtimes happen.
School Food Heroes is free to Food For Thought member schools. Resource packs are limited, so get in touch early to secure yours!
